Siemens Industry Software SAS PL STS CAE1D division, formerly known as LMS Imagine prior to its acquisition in 2013, develops since over 20 years the Imagine.Lab Amesim multi-domain dynamic simulation solution. The Simulation and Testing (STS) division now also includes the recent acquis ions of CD-ADPACO and Mentor Graphics companies. The Amesim solution is used by worldwide transportation, industry and energy OEMs, integrators and suppliers to predict the multidisciplinary performance, efficiency and emissions of their systems. The Amesim solution is made of a platform integrating multiple solvers, languages (bond-graph, MODELICA, state charts), coupling capabilities (FMI, S-functions, etc.), pre and post-processing tools, scripting tools, and large set of standard libraries counting over 5000 validated component models addressing multiple application domains. The Amesim research and development teams count over 100 engineers located in Lyon and Roanne, France.
In the energy production domain, Siemens involved teams count customers like Siemens AG, Rolls Royce, GE, Alstom Grid or Schneider Electric.
Role in the project
In the PUMP-HEAT project, Siemens will:
- set up new combined cycle power plant Amesim models (1D) integrating the new thermal systems
- develop the necessary components models when needed, with the relevant technical approach (1D, embedded 3D CFD, 3D CFD coupling with model reduction, etc)
- use these models to support the integration of the new thermal systems and the development of new control systems, their calibration and preliminary validation (WP4). In this context, Siemens will couple Amesim simulator using Model in the Loop, Software in the Loop and Hardware in the Loop technologies, relying as possible on standard coupling interfaces (Sfunction, PLC intefaces, FMI, dll export…).
- investigate advanced control technologies embedding reduced models in controllers (optimal control, predictive control, virtual sensors and estimators)
The main outcome for Siemens will be the new developed features to be exploited as part of its Amesim commercial software, the acquired know-how related to flexible CCPP operation, the validation of MiL/SiL/HiL techniques for CCPP applications, the exploitation or reduced models and the dissemination of the Amesim contribution to the achieved plant performances. According to its wide experience at industrial level, Siemens will lead WP4 about PHCC layout performance simulation and control.
Mr. Pacôme Magnin: he is the RTD Manager in the SIEMENS staff: Pacôme has managed many collaborative projects for over 10 years, mainly in the transportation and energy domain. He directly contributes to several transportation, industry and energy research projects over the past 10 years and represents Siemens DF PL STS in several European associations.
Mr. Franck Sellier: he is an electromechanical solution manager: Franck manages the technical activities in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles. Franck Sellier is working at Siemens PL STS since 1999 and contributes to the development of the electric libraries and capabilities of Amesim solution.
Mr. Aldrick Brizard: he is the product Line manager for Thermofluids, Aldrick manages the Amesim software related activities in the field of fluids systems and thermal management. Aldrik Brizard is working at Siemens (LMS) since 2004 and has been involved in various research activities and customer projects regarding thermo fluid systems.
Mr. Benoit Honel: he is the product manager for thermal systems.Benoit has been deeply involved over the last 15 years in different customers projects focused on the simulation of systems for thermal systems and energy management. He has been also responsible of a 2-year French R&D project that contributed to the development of thermal management dedicated components in the Amesim system simulation solution.
Mr.Olivier Broca, PhD, Product Line Manager: PhD in fluid dynamics (ONERA), Olivier joined Siemens (LMS) in 2007, and is now in charge of aerospace, defense and gas turbine simulation products and teams. Olivier also manages the key academic partnerships of the division related to gas turbines for aerospace an energy.
